What makes Canyonlands Basecamp different from other parks near Moab?

Canyonlands Basecamp is not a traditional full-hookup RV park.  In fact, we don't claim to be an "RV" park at all.  We are a low-density backcountry camping retreat designed for guests who value space, quiet/cool evenings, and dark skies over crowded rows of utility pedestals. If you’re looking for a resort-style RV park with hookups at every site, that’s not us. If you’re looking for calm, semi private sites separated by native piñon and juniper, pure high-desert air and a quieter alternative to busy Moab campgrounds, you’ll likely love it here.  Our camp is at 7400'.  Nights are cool and the hottest days rarely get above the high 80's.  When Moab is 105° in the day, were 89°.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far are you from the national parks?

Approximate drive times: • Canyonlands National Park (Needles District): ~1 hour • Arches National Park: ~1 hour 10 minutes • Mesa Verde National Park: just over 1 hour • Newspaper Rock: ~45 minutes • Monument Valley & Four Corners: ~1.5 hours • Bears Ears National Monument: ~1.5 hours We are centrally located for exploring the entire Four Corners region.

Campsites & Dry Camping

Do you offer full hookups?

No. All sites at Canyonlands Basecamp are dry camping only. We do not provide electrical, sewer, or water hookups at individual sites.  Our property actually borders national forest land.  Think "forest camping" but really close to town. We do provide: • A centralized water fill station • An on-site dump station. Our retreat is best suited for self-contained RVs, vans, and campers comfortable managing their own systems. This intentional design helps preserve space, reduce light pollution, and maintain the quiet atmosphere that defines Basecamp.

Why don’t you offer hookups?

We prioritize space, simplicity, and a backcountry feel over high-density infrastructure. Limiting hookups allows for: • More distance between sites • Less visual clutter • Reduced generator noise • A more natural desert setting Many of our guests appreciate the slower, simpler rhythm this creates.

What types of camping setups are allowed?

We welcome:

• Ground tents

• Self-contained RVs

• Vans

• Rooftop tents

• All camping must remain within your reserved site.

Some sites include dedicated tent pads. Other sites allow tents behind your primary vehicle if space permits.

Is this dispersed camping?

No. While Canyonlands Basecamp offers a spacious, backcountry feel, it is a reserved-site property. All camping, vehicles, and outdoor setups must remain within the boundaries of your reserved site. We are not public BLM land or open dispersed camping.

What is the maximum occupancy per site?

The maximum occupancy is 6 guests per site, regardless of camping style. This helps preserve space and comfort for all guests.

Are multiple vehicles allowed?

Multiple vehicles must fit entirely within your reserved site boundaries. Vehicles may not overflow into roadways or adjacent sites. Please review your specific site details before booking. We have no "parking areas" for extra vehicles.

Are sites level?

Yes. We have gone to great trouble to provide flat, level sites.  Despite our best efforts and hundreds of tons of fill, settling may occur over time.  We do our best to keep sites graded and leveled for stable and practical setup.

Do you have pull-through sites?

Yes. We offer three pull-through and seven back-in layouts while maintaining space between sites.

Quiet & Retreat Atmosphere

What are your quiet hours?

Quiet hours are strictly enforced. Canyonlands Basecamp is NOT a party campground. We protect calm evenings, dark skies, and a respectful environment for all guests — including those staying in our dome accommodations. Excessive noise may result in removal from the property without refund.

Do you allow generators?

Generator use may be limited to designated daytime hours only. If you rely heavily on generator power, please ensure you are comfortable with these limitations before booking.  We allow ONLY quiet, enclosed, "inverter" style generators.  NO "open" or "contractor" style generators are allowed.

Do you allow large group gatherings?

Large gatherings are not permitted unless every site on the property is reserved by the same group.

Even with a full-property reservation:

• Quiet hours still apply

• Drunken or disruptive parties are not allowed

• The retreat atmosphere must be preserved

Because we also host Canyonlands Dome guests seeking quiet, we protect the overall environment carefully.

Pets Are pets allowed?

Yes — responsible pet owners are welcome.

• Pets must remain leashed • Owners must clean up immediately

• Excessive barking is not permitted

Failure to follow pet policies may result in removal without refund.

Fire Policy

Are campfires allowed?

Absolutely NO OPEN Fires are allowed.  Our county permit to run this camp disallows them. Guests are welcome to bring their own propane fire pits, as well as propane or charcoal cook stoves.

Violations may result in immediate removal from the property.

Water & Dump Station

Is there a dump station?

Yes. We offer an on-site dump station for registered guests only.

Please leave the area clean and be courteous to others.

Is there a water fill station?

Yes. A centralized water fill station is available. Please do not leave hoses unattended and allow others access during busy periods.

The Canyonlands Racing Bus

What is the Canyonlands Racing Bus?

It is a private, self-contained premium lodging experience separate from our campsites. It includes electricity, a private bathroom, and stand-up shower. It is booked separately and priced as a one-of-a-kind stay.

Booking & Logistics

How do I book?

All reservations must be made through our secure online booking system. Availability changes quickly during peak seasons.

Do you allow late arrivals?

Yes. Arrival instructions are sent prior to check-in. Please respect quiet hours upon arrival. Is there WiFi? WiFi may be limited. Cell service generally works but varies by carrier. Many guests appreciate the opportunity to unplug.
